She suggested the day would be one in which mothers could rally for peace. For several years, she held an annual Mother&#8217;s Day meeting in Boston.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>In 1908, Anna Jarvis began a campaign for a nationwide observance of Mother&#8217;s Day. Anna never had any children of her own but wanted to carry out her mother\u2019s wishes of having a day just for moms.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>On May 9, 1914,\u00a0President Woodrow Wilson signed a bill recognizing Mother&#8217;s Day as a national holiday.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>In its beginnings, people observed Mother&#8217;s Day by going to church and writing letters to their mothers.
